Maja Tait
Maja Tait wants to make life better for the people of Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke. As the current the Mayor of Sooke (elected in 2014) and over her two terms as a Councillor, Maja has championed affordable housing initiatives, environmental protection, improving access to amenities for children and elders, all while being mindful of taxpayer contributions.
Maja was raised in the hamlet of Bragg Creek, Alberta and lived in Calgary and Japan before moving to Vancouver Island in 1997. Maja moved to Sooke with her husband Alexander in 2006, and while serving as Mayor they welcomed their child Ewan in 2015!
Over the last decade, Maja has served on the Capital Regional District Board, Victoria Regional Transit Commission, and the South Island Reconciliation Advisory Committee, to name a few.
Maja has a strong record of building relationships across political divides, earning the trust of local government leaders across BC and Canada. In 2019 she was elected to serve as the president of the Union of BC Municipalities, and later earned a seat as a committee member with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
When she can find the free time, Maja enjoys puttering about her garden, exploring the natural wild areas of her community to reenergize and testing new recipes on her family and friends.
Maja is an experienced and effective advocate for her community. She would be honoured to continue her advocacy at the federal level and bring the voices of Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke to Ottawa.
